𝐍𝐖𝐔 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐧-𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫, 𝐑𝐢𝐛𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

In connection with the installation of the solar panels at Northwestern University, a ceremonial turn-over and ribbon-cutting was conducted at the CAS Garden, Mega Bldg. on February 24, 2022, highlighting a greener pasture for the future of the campus and another milestone in the history of NWU.

Prof. Karl Lenin C. Benigno, Vice President for Administration (VPA), emphasized the definite progress of innovation at the university. He stated, “We witness a dramatic transformation that will ultimately change the course of this institution’s features.”

“Northwestern University keeps on innovating for the better, always at the forefront of initiating initiatives for the benefit of the people and community,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mikel Garcia, MLTVRS Tech Ventures Corp. President, discussed the proposal design, from its potential uses to its beneficiary purposes to the campus, being converted to a greener energy source. Mr. Garcia stated, “We expect a total of 257 megawatts powers of solar energy produced every year for the next 25 years. This installation will last beyond 25 years.”

He further explained, “Because of your investment towards green energy, there’s also a bigger impact to the environment—definitely, and to the community. It’s outstanding. You save 112 kilos of carbon emissions every year, which translates as well to 98,000 trees planted over 25 years; 700 cars were taken off the road, and lastly, 1,300 tons of waste recycled.”

Moreover, Atty. Ferdinand S. Nicolas, University President, explained their negotiation process with the aim of a greener environment. He highlighted that the installation of solar panels will not only protect the environment but will also generate savings for the university as it moves toward its centennial.

Some university officials attended the ceremony specifically Dr. Jennifer Del Amen, Dean of the College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology (CEAT); Dir. Christopher Viloria, Head of Center for Information and Communication Technology (CICT); Atty. Robert Camarillo, I.T. Consultant of CICT; Engr. Glen Del Amen, PPDO Electrical Maintenance Supervisor; CEAT faculty members; Supreme Student Council officers; and BS Electrical Engineering and BS Computer Engineering students.
