Highlighting prolific academic and non-curricular achievements of the students, Northwestern University conducted an Interim Recognition Program held at the Aquino Multi-Purpose Center on March 1, 2023. Scholars and achievers from the different colleges and student organizations were awarded and recognized for the excellent accomplishments.

Dr. Gregoria S. Najorda, Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), expressed her warm congratulatory message to the awardees. She commended the teachers and mentors who facilitated learning and challenged the students to strive more; as well as the parents who supported their children in the pursuit of their dreams.

The VPAA magnified that the essence of the journey to education is deep down in one’s heart, to become a person with character. “Remember, this is not the end, but just the beginning, and let this be an inspiration to everyone to strive, to work harder for the best,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Ms. Cindy Flores Utleg, 7th placer of the Medical Technologist Licensure Examination and the guest speaker, imparted an inspirational speech highlighting life as everyone’s responsibility. She shared her educational journey where she encountered countless detours and delays.

Ms. Utleg reminded the achievers that they can always turn the tables and change the narratives. “As much as we celebrate our achievements, may we also embrace, celebrate, and appreciate the times that we have endured because the process always mattered as much as the results,” Ms. Utleg expressed as she congratulated the achievers for a job well done.

Moreover, Prof. Cynthia C. Medrano, University Registrar, recognized the Top 10 students with the highest General Weighted Average for second semester A.Y. 2021-2022. The awardees of the special recognitions were: Pamela V. Tadeja (AB ENG), Jezreel Larry R. Caunca (AB POLSCI), Olivia Faye F. CastaΓ±eda (BSN), Janeah Cassie C. Mayo (BSCRIM), Ziantal Samantha B. Lorenzo (BSMLS), Normelyn M. Curammeng (BSN), Mark Lester A. Caletina (BSCS), Cyruss Jallen V. Arrieta (BSBIO), Janine J. Francisco (BSHM), and Jericha Faye U. Tingson (BSPSYCH), respectively.

The cream of the crop, Pamela V. Tadeja, Top 1 University Scholar, shared her insightful reflection on her college journey. She reminded her fellow awardees that they should find some time to prioritize themselves whenever they feel emotionally and mentally exhausted because as college students, they need to be extra strong.

“I urge you to keep being extraordinary. I urge you to keep the fire burning within your heart and search the dream that would soon be your reality,” Tadeja encouraged.

On the other hand, Mrs. Rhea Tadeja, parent of the University Scholar, also emphasized that parents should never lose communication and guidance for their children. She reminded her fellow parents that they have an influence on their children, not only on who they are now but also on who they will become in the future.

“We must continue to guide them by keeping them grounded on moral values but not limiting their freedom to learn on their own,” she concluded.

Furthermore, a total of 200 awardees were recognized for being outstanding in curricular activities: 143 from College of Allied Health and Sciences (CAHS), 21 from College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), 24 from College of Business Education (COBE), seven (7) from College of Teachers Education (CTE), two (2) from College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE), and three (3) from College of Maritime Education (COME). Special awards were also given to the students and student organizations who excelled in non-curricular activities, international, national, regional, provincial, and school-based levels.
