CAHS hold F2F Orientation for Levels I-IV

Gone are the days as to which students rely solely to the stress that the online realm prevails. Slowly grasping the essence of being able to feel the reality that college students encounter on the daily. Thus, to finally set foot upon the premises that provide education in sustaining our knowledgeable prowess, the College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS) conducted a face-to- face college orientation intended for Levels 1 through 4 of different disciplines at the Aquino Multi-Purpose Center in Northwestern University (NWU) on September 29, 2022.

Prof. Charliemane A. Bullalayao, Dean of CAHS, began his opening remarks in extending his gratitude to the student body as well as the faculty and staff for choosing NWU as their pioneer and basis in education. He is in full optimism that despite the dreadful obstacles that this pandemic has offered, students must find strength, patience and entrust their worries with the grace of God. For he stated, “Tomorrow is always another chance full of opportunities.”The presentation of faculty, staff and organizational officers were respectively introduced by the dean, department heads, level chairman and advisers.

Vice President of Academic Affairs, Prof. Gregoria S. Najorda, shared an inspiring message in hopes of driving the student body to strive harder. She believes that we should never fear failures or criticisms because just like COVID-19 they are here to stay, lurking in the dark waiting for their chance to consume our being.

“They are here to challenge your endurance, patience, dedication and resilience. But as long as you are set to attain your goals, nothing can stop it. Rid of any unnecessary things and focus on your goals. Do not aim for perfection,” she stated. Furthermore, Prof. Gregoria also displayed her mantra in life which is to set rules, learning to communicate and compromise despite circumstances made known and to always wear a humble heart.

Prof. Liza S. Nicolas, Executive Vice President and Chairman of the Board further emphasized the commitment of the university in providing quality education towards their students with their plans of addressing the required necessities such as free wi-fi internet zones accessible to students in need along with repaired bathroom utilities and water supply.

Mr. Jaymark Corpuz, Monitoring Program Auditor of Quality Assurance Center (QAC), simply explained the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and its role within the university as a means of being able to provide quality education to their students. Hence, allowing NWU to be an ISO accredited private university in Ilocos Norte.

Guidance Counselor, Shirley Bumanglag, shared their role within the guidance sector of the university. She promoted guidance counseling as a safe haven throughout the academic life of a student. Where they ensure a positive mental health during season of trials through their program entitled as lifeline. For lifeline is initiative in building high hopes and resiliency for the community. Dean of Office of Academic Affairs (OSA), Prof. Agustina D. Matias, gave a brief insight of the services and organizations offered by the university where students are open to participate in having the capabilities in honing their skills. She also gave light to the policies, restrictions and disciplinary acts if any student were to violate these set of rules.

Prof. Cynthia Medrano, University Registrar, provided a concise explanation of the services that the registrar’s office offers. This includes academic scholars, student records and concerns of the said community. Ms. Nora Clemente, University Librarian, hold the key in knowing the importance of books through the library as a means of being a source and reference of academic endeavors. In addition, she talked about the services they offer and how e-books are accessed via the student portal.

Health and Safety Officer, Mr. Leovigildo Navasca, readdressed the importance of following health protocols, creating appointments before entering the premises of the school and making sure of the absence of illnesses to avoid any toxic spread of COVID-19.Dr. Yolanda S. Lao, Director of the Community Extension Services, gravitated towards the topic of transforming and developing the CHAMPS of NWU where she promoted the holistic lifestyle change of people and human responsibility to the environment with resources in providing help to those in need.

Prof. Shiela B. Navasca, Head of the Physical Therapy Department, displayed her heartfelt appreciation to the administrators in allowing the face-to-face conduct of classes in enhancing the laboratory mastery of students knowing that this is an important prospect in the medical realm. In addition, she also gave her warm thanks to the speakers of the said event.

“As we almost see the horizons, the end of the pandemic, may we still remain steadfast in the portrayal of our own goals. May we continue to work diligently and collaboratively. May your academic journey be a fruitful one by equipping you with the core values of CHAMPS and mold you to become globally competitive yet globally grounded healthcare professionals who’ll make great contributions to the health needs of our community,” she concluded.
