Call of Duty Mobile: The Last Man Standing

This global health crisis we’re facing compelled people to look for something that could entertain or help them cope with the challenge and boredom brought by the situation. Everyone’s undoubtedly reaching out for the calling that the modern era’s making; it’s a fast-paced transition— everyone’s able to fit in.

The beauty and challenge have lured many people that this game offers. This game used to be enjoyed and accessed only through consoles and personal computers; the world went crazy when this game became available to the mobile platform in October 2019.

Call of Duty: Mobile (CODM) is a game developed by TiMi Studios and published by Activision and Garena to be enjoyed by the fans of this game who can’t afford to play through the platforms where it was initially published.

This game is a free-to-play shooter video game that could be enjoyed with its multiplayer mode. If Players Unknown’s Battleground (PUBG) is inclined by its realistic approach, CODM has its own way to entice players to enjoy this game through its futuristic approach.

These two games are often used for heated debate, such as which of these two are a lot better to play. Both are high-end and high-maintenance games; there’s no need for a debate as they are undeniably superb with their differences from each other. It’s just about personal preference.

Suppose PUBGM is known for its multiple servers/versions like Korean, TiMi, Lite, Chinese and Global. In that case, CODM too has three servers:

  1. Garena (which is available primarily in Southeast Asian regions)
  2. Activision (which is the global version of the game, patronized by the players as it’s very generous with its feats or events that offer many free epic skins, etc.)
  3. the Chinese version/server (which the last server published and now considered as the advanced server as they experience first the updates that the CODM will have)

CODM can be enjoyed in multiple ways. Players have coined different terms with the tempting and unique modes this game offers. The CODM community is divided into three categories: Battle Royale (BR) main, Multiplayer (MP) main, and Flexible (Flexi).

Battle Royale mains are those who enjoy the luxury of entertainment that the Battle Royale mode gives. These are the players who spend more time playing the BR mode rather than MP, and these are the players who have found fondness with the mentioned mode.

Why are people crazy about the BR mode? It’s the heart-stopping, adrenaline rush, and spine-chilling experience that you’ll get. BR mode can be played by Solo, Duo (2 man team), and Squad (4 man team). What makes it more amusing is the class that you could select if you play this mode. This so-called class is where you can be anything you want from the choices given by the game. Upon choosing a class, you’ll get to have the upper hand against your opponent or perks that you could enjoy that would make your gameplay more thrilling and intense.

What are the available classes anyway?

Airborne (AB): This class allows you to launch a squad into the air using a catapult. This one is useful for escaping or reaching higher places such as towers or mountains and scouting enemies while gliding in the air. When upgraded, it allows you to reach much more elevated areas. The player who chose this class could glide and fly farther than players who did not select the AB class.

Clown: This class is used to summon zombies that would chase nearby enemies but now replaced with K9 dogs. They’ll attack detected nearby enemy; the K9 dogs are no joke as their attacks hurt as much as a gunshot. Clown is the most used class in BR as it a good assist for the player and would have an advantage for them, especially when the zone is already tiny. Tip: if you think that you have an advantage, you can go to the opposite direction where the K9 dogs are heading; by that, you’ll be able to kill your enemy by surprise.

Defender: Is one of the hated classes by most players as this class could be the best offense and great defense at the same time. Once deployed with precise timing, it would blind the enemy (with a flashbang) that would give you time to attack them while they are temporarily blind. This portable barrier could be a great cover too. Defender class allows the player to be formidable by any type of pain except gunshots.

Desperado: Enables you to place a shielded turret equipped with a gun that comes with unlimited ammo. What’s great about this class if you get knocked, you’ll get to fight for your life until the end by being able to equip a pistol, and if you get to kill an enemy, you’ll be revived. This is rarely chosen as it doesn’t really help in engagements within the enemy squad; however, this class is helpful when killing the boss (the butcher, located on Farm).

Hacker: Allows you to hack the system of a nearby enemy (squad), distorting their minimap and disabling their class’ skill to be inaccessible for a while, referred to as hardwired. One advantage upon choosing this class is that you’ll get to destroy nearby deployed skills like tripwires and catapult (airborne).

Mechanic: This allows you to manipulate a drone to gain an advantage in the battle. The drone would temporarily stun the enemy, making them unable to use their skill/class for a moment. Augmented sight is as well gifted in this class, as you’ll be able to see nearby vehicles and even traps through the walls and ceilings.

Medic: Is one of the original lineups of classes that CODM introduced before they added more of them. Medic is usually used by support role players (a less aggressive type of player), which is an excellent tactic for a squad. It allows them to be a bit formidable as they engage with enemies; they are being healed at the same time. What’s more beneficial with this class is that the player who has chosen this class can use medics or healing items faster than usual and revive knocked down teammates quickly.

Ninja: Is usually picked by solo players and is effective for aggressive type players (rusher/fragger) as their footsteps couldn’t be seen on the mini-map or by the enemies. And when upgraded, the movements of a ninja class player will be muffled (dead silence) and could attack enemy players by surprise. As a player with this type of class, you could be as swift as a wind with the grappling hook equipment once use and attack enemy approached with hip fire. This hook also helps you climb or access higher and blind spots that would be an advantage for you to scout enemies and even snipe them. The hook could be an advantage, too, on escaping from an engagement with enemies going to a safer place, but everything would be at your disadvantage with one just wrong pinch.

Poltergeist: Is effective for escaping or attacking enemies by being invisible for a moment. When it is activated, it increases your speed while you are in a stealth state and running. However, there are cases in even though you are in a stealth state, enemies who have keen eyes could still spot you when using this class.

Refitter: Gives you the perk to place armor packs that could be picked up by yourself and by your teammates, adding layers of armor before the (natural) equipped armor isdamaged. It comes with a greaser perk, wherein it increases the durability of your armor and any vehicles you’ll use.

Scout: This class could be activated by deploying a sensor dart that would reveal the location of your enemies within your vicinity. It allows you to see the recent tracks/footsteps of a nearby enemy. If upgraded, it will enable the sensor dart’s reach a lot farther. This one is useful for people whose role is rusher or scout.

Spotter: This one can be obtained last season through grinding. It allows you to launch a cluster airstrike and gives you an enhanced ability to see nearby winged enemies. Only a few use this class as it is only useful when it is already the last circle or on a Tank Wars mode in Battle Royale.

Trickster: Is a tactical class that would allow you to replicate yourself (which is called psychosis) into two holographic decoys that will confuse your enemy. Although it’s actually easy to spot the real one, the more movement (like jump-slide) you make, the easier it is for them to spot you. One advantage that this class gives is, it enhances your hearing as you could hear nearby enemy’s footsteps in a broader range than the rest of your team.

Trap Master: If the defender was categorized as one of the most hated classes, Trap Master would be the king or own the throne. When the trap’s deployed, it enables a high-voltage current line—as the enemy passes it through, the enemy will take damage (by being electrocuted) and will be slowed. If upgraded, its damage will increase, and it would be impossible for a player to escape and heal. This one is deadly as if you were not alert enough, you’ll fall into the enemy’s trap. There’s no way out for you.

The most anticipated new class that players have been excited to grind is Rewind. It allows players to teleport back to their position from 5 seconds prior. One more advantage is that the player will be less vulnerable to Flashbang grenade and Concussion grenade for about 47%, according to the game.

These are why many players enjoy the game, although the only available map in Battle Royale is Isolated. Players won’t feel bored or won’t be fed up playing on the same map because of the thrill these classes bring.

You can enjoy Battle Royale through diverse modes like Blitz (a fast-paced game with high-tier weapons that could be looted, which became fans’ favorite aside from the regular Battle Royale), Alcatraz (which introduces a new map inspired by the Alcatraz Island in San Fransisco, same as Blitz, it’s fast-paced gameplay), and lastly Tank Wars (fast-paced gameplay hence gives you the task to collect Tank parts to assemble, it’s self-explanatory, from the name itself).

And here’s why there are players that are called ‘MP mains.’ It is simply because they find it exciting to play in Multiplayer mode rather than Battle Royale mode. These are the players who excel or could grasp the mode’s difficulty rather than they can in BR. Multiplayer or MP is a 5-man team battling against a 5-man enemy on a small map in different modes. The pressure that this mode gives is different from the pressure and thrill the battle royale has. Multiplayer could be enjoyed through a match or ranked game.

Most people who grind in a match are trying to max their guns or grind their gun camos. Will be explaining later why they instead choose to grind their camo than their ranks. And in ranked multiplayer, you would rarely compete against bots; instead, you’ll get to play with diverse competitive players who even coined themselves as shotgun (SG) main (as they have mastered the gun, most likely KRM and HSO users), Sniper (SR) main (as they have mastered the gun, they are the one who could kill you by prediction while you’re just trying to peek spotting enemy; most of them are feared by players—especially those who are good at quick scoping), and a lot more terms that are too many to enumerate.

In multiplayer, you’ll get to combat against an enemy team in diverse game modes. Domination (Domi) requires you to capture objectives/areas (Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie) and earn points as you go on. Kills are not counted as points in domination. Hardpoint (HP) requires you to capture an objective that spawns on a random area in the map, and you’ll gain points by holding the captured hardpoint. Frontline is a race to 50 kills gameplay. The first one who reaches the quota wins the game, and you’ll not get to worry about where the enemy will respawn, unlike in other game modes like Domination and Hardpoint. Search and Destroy (SnD) requires a team strategy as you won’t get to respawn every time you die. Allows you to either destroy the target (by planting the bomb successfully) or defend the target (by defusing the bomb planted by the enemies), and of course, allows you to stop the enemy from doing the same thing. Requires a high level of concentration as it is like a YOLO (You Only Live Once) mission and great alertness and accuracy; as you miss one shot, you’ll be found dead on the ground and wait to respawn on the next round. Team Death Match (TDM) is like a Frontline game mode, but the only difference is it only race to 40 kills. There are many more game modes that could be enjoyed in the featured section, not regular modes, such as the mentioned game modes. An example is Docks 24/7 (a newly introduced map), Summer Showdown, Night Mode: Enhanced, Gun Game Moshpit, Kill Confirmed, and many more.

Flexible players, by the way, are players who can both play Multiplayer and Battle Royale. These are the players who have mastered both modes and could adjust their gameplay regarding the difference in the environment of these two game modes. These players are truly commendable as they could both slay in BR and MP without having any problem.

And here’s the reason why players grind their camos more than they grind their ranks. It’s because when you obtain these camos (gold, diamond, platinum, and Damascus) it brings the satisfactory or great pleasure of the hard work you’ve done playing the game. It’s not that easy to unlock a camo; it doesn’t take hours to unlock one, as it takes days somehow and months perhaps for platinum and Damascus. Before you acquire the gold camo, you have to unlock the ten (10) different camos needed to be grinded by doing what is being asked, like killing 50 enemies with a headshot and so on. And before you acquire the diamond camo, you have to get ten (10) kills in a completed match 120 times to unlock it. And before you acquire the platinum camo, you need to unlock all the gold camos for weapons of the same gun types (for example, you have to unlock all of your Assault Rifle guns’ gold camo). And before you acquire the Damascus camo, you have to unlock gold camos of all weapons (from Assault Rifle to Melee, perhaps). Camo, by the way, is their way to call the skins of the weapon.

What’s fancier about this game is the series of operator skins (the characters or avatars representing you in the game) that you could obtain through log-ins or grinds or even by drawing. Many people spend money for the legendary skins that the game introduces, skins with fancy or cool effects that draw people to pay thousands for a full draw.

This game has so much more to offer. Season end is approaching, and rumors say they will merge the Garena to another server by Season 6. Many new in-game updates will be introduced that would make the game a lot more thrilling.

As someone who enjoys the game, what made me fall in love with it is…ironically, the adrenaline rush that I feel whenever I hear the ‘You’re the last man standing, complete the mission.’ in MP and ‘Last two team’ in BR especially I am literally the last man standing. What made me a lot whipped is the pleasure it gives attaining Ace (clutching five (5) enemy) in MP and clutching enemy squads and winning BR. Be the last man standing. Conquer them all. Own the game.
