CEAT studs hailed as Mr. and Miss Intrams 2021

Northwestern University (NWU) held a virtual intramural highlighting Mr. and Ms. Intrams 2021 with the theme “Reboot, Rewire, Reconquer” last December 13-16, 2021 via Facebook Live.

With great confidence and fabulous walks on a 5-minute video presentation in each category, the 12 female and male candidates from six (6) colleges of Northwestern University gave their best in competing for the crown.

The first round of the competition was the introduction of the candidates from the different colleges, introducing their personal backgrounds, mottos, and advocates in life.

“I want to advocate the value of education to all young people. I want to inspire everyone that this pandemic won’t stop us from dreaming and pursuing what we want in life. I know that I made the right decision for choosing Northwestern University as a stepping stone to pursue excellence in becoming a professional,” John Rafael Liberato of College of Teacher Education (CTE) said.

The New Normal Casual Attire was the next round of the competition, showcasing the different casual attires worn by the candidates. The last round was the sportswear competition. The candidates flaunted their various sportswear and explained the essence of sports as they showcased their own attires to everyone virtually.

To conclude the said event, John Raphael Liberato from CTE and Rose Tolentino from the College of Criminal Justice and Education (CCJE) both secured the Mr. and Miss Intrams second runner-up titles.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Angelo Balico from CCJE and Alyssa Chris Ramirez from the College of Business Education (COBE) were declared as the Mr. and Miss Intrams first runner-up.

Conquering their own stage with passion and determination, both from the College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology (CEAT), Merry Chris Corpuz and Freddie Ulang made their way up to the top, securing their spot as Mr. and Miss Intrams 2021.

Special Awards were also given. Freddie Ulang (CEAT) as Mr. DITO and Mr. Smart, Roussel Bulanadi from the College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS) as Miss DITO. Also, Merry Chris Corpuz (CEAT) was awarded Miss Smart, Gabriel Angelo Balico (CCJE) as Mr. Vertex, and Alyssa Chris Ramirez (COBE) as Miss Vertex.

The panel of judges for the event included Ms. Aimee Chua, Managing Director and Head Operations of Blue Banana Foods and Beverages (Share Tea Ilocos); Mr. Bjorn Lao, CEO of Vertext Handy Phones; Mr. Joseph Tomas, Station Manager of 99.5 IFM; Mr. Ronan Domingo, Digital Content Creator; and Mr. Enrico “Kiko” F. Ang, Owner and President of Country Rice Mill Trading and Corporation.

“Actually, I am hesitant to join the pageant because I have doubts [about] myself and I am afraid to disappoint the CEAT department, but I’m so glad that I have my family, friends, and classmates who supported me [from] day one up to the end. They were able to boost my confidence so that I [could] do it and make my department proud of me. I did not expect myself to be called [among] the top three, but in the end, I was hailed as Mr. Intrams 2021, and I’m very thankful,” Freddie Ulang said.

“I did not expect this title as the outcome of my sacrifices, but I am thankful that it all paid off,” Freddie Ulang added.

Merry Chris Corpuz proudly stated, “Winning the title of Miss Intrams 2021 virtually is a big opportunity for me in this new normal. I couldn’t help but wonder whether this was my destiny at first. Ending is the most wonderful sensation, and it’s an early Christmas present for me because I fought so hard to attain that goal. So I shall wear the crown with the highest respect I can give, since it is not only just a title, but also a significant responsibility.”

“I want them to know that those beauty pageants are rigorous and character building. So, I advise those aspiring candidates to not compare themselves to anyone else but to be confident and [do] their best because each person possesses a unique beauty that cannot be imitated by anyone else” Merry Chris Corpuz said when asked what message can she deliver to those aspiring candidates on pageantry such as Mr. and Ms. Intramurals.
