Conqueror’s Battleground: Quench thy Blood-thirst

Amidst the rise of Mobile Legends as the top-grossing mobile game in the Philippines, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Mobile (PUBGM) has climbed to the top after being released in 2018. Mobile Legends, however, was the ruler in the e-sports scene for mobile games before the quarantine. Players in the Philippines used to swarm for opportunities to battle in tournaments exclusively for Mobile Legends.

Nevertheless, the game’s intensity and players’ thirst to conquer in battle royal paved the way for PUBGM to keep a head to head battle with other Battle Royal games or mobile games.

What is PUBG Mobile and what makes it unparalleled among other trending other mobile games? PUBGM is a combat and survival mobile game that brings you the experience of how it feels to be on a real battlefield. It brings diverse emotions such as the exhilaration to deal with damages among other players, the satisfaction you feel when you get the ‘Winner Winner Chicken Dinner,’ and the nerve-whacking feeling whenever you face opponents who were so good with close combat or rushing.

How did they come up with the name for the game? What is the reason behind its name? Brendan Greene, the creator of the game, was an avid gamer. He used ‘Player Unknown’ as his in-game name to every game he played; that makes sense why the game is called PlayerUnknown’s Battle Ground.

In this review, you’ll be able to get to know more about PUBG Mobile. Moreover, reading this may tempt you to try the game somehow.

For someone who seeks an outlet to vent out stress or as a way to have fun, this game, PUBG Mobile, is well-recommended as it has a less competitive environment than Mobile Legends.

Versions

In 2017, PUBG released the full version and its initial debut through the Personal Computer (PC) platform. The official release of its mobile and global version was in 2018. In China, a Chinese version of the game was released called Game For Peace. However, it has two versions: Timi, which is intended or suitable for low-end phones but doesn’t have the global version, and the light-speed version has a better frame rate and graphics for a better gameplay experience. Light speed version requires slightly high-end phones for a smooth gameplay experience and has access to the global version. Light speed and global version don’t have that much difference.

The Chinese version is a lot updated, and there are weapons and features that are not available in the global version. Compared to the global version, the Chinese version seems to be more ahead in terms of features and events given that a Chinese firm coded it.

Korean version of PUBGM or PUBGM KR also entered the picture alongside other versions like Chinese and Global. The KR version offers more attractive features and they are very generous with free crates or items they give. This version is amiable unlike the global version and very forgiving as well. Whenever someone experiences an error during gameplay, they compensate the player with a permanent item. What players love about the KR version is how their events generously give mythical or endless awesome rewards. Previously, in June 2020, they provided a falcon (which, when you buy it directly from the PUBG store, it’s about 1,500 UC) as a reward for their major event.

Very high luck in crates is what this version has caught the attention of players. The percentage of luck upon receiving items from crates is very high that you would not likely receive a time-limited outfit or silver from crates.

Moving on, players from the global version and the Korean version can team up with their preferred server and play together.

Lastly, the PUBG Mobile Lite, was designed to work with a variety and wide range of smartphones. Games will be played on a smaller map and hold a capacity of 60 players, which is a bit lesser than the standard 100 players per game in other versions. The app’s design is for a low-end phone run smoothly, most likely phones with less than 2GB of RAM, and players to shoot accurately without worrying about delays and lag during gameplay.

Although it has many versions, players don’t debate that much on which version they should have for better gameplay. If a player prefers the luxury of collecting permanent legendary and permanent items, PUBGM KR is the best option. If a player chooses a version that focuses on diverse events and various choices of weapons to use, Game For Peace is a suitable version to download. If a player prefers something that is less delayed and laggy gameplay and doesn’t render that much, PUBGM Lite is the best option. Nevertheless, the global version is the most used and downloaded as it has a lot of pros that are way too many to list.

Whichever version it is, the gameplay experience and the enjoyment that the player feels is what matters that most.

What’s New in PUBG Mobile?

Recently, players had to bid their goodbyes to Erangel as PUBGM released Erangel 2.0 or Era 2.0. Its initial release was on Game For Peace or the Chinese version in June 2020 and released on the global version in September 2020. It was a huge update and unexpected to have the Erangel map revamped into a better battlefield for patrons/players.

In Erangel 2.0, the graphics give a mind-blowing experience as lighting effects have been more noticeable. For instance, the water became a lot clearer. The sun rays were more illuminating as it reflects beautifully against the water.

This revamped map includes the additional secret basements that players can find in Kameshki, west of Quarry, west of Ruins, west of Stalber Hill, and northeast of Fiery Pier. If you expect rare and abundant loots in those secret basements, you are wrong. Although there is a scarcity in loots within those locations, if you are lucky enough, you can find a flare gun.

DBS (a double-barrel pump-action shotgun that can only be found in airdrops that uses 12-gauge shotgun ammo) can be seen as a normal loot and no longer be found in airdrops like it used to. Although this shotgun somehow deals with damages well, most players hated it and felt a relief when it could no longer be looted through airdrops.

How did the main map get its name, you may ask? First, it is the most recognized and played map in PUBG. The name was not just fictional, but it was inspired by the daughter of Brendan Greene, the creator of the game. His daughter’s name was Eryn, combining ‘Eryn’ with ‘Angel’ they came up with the name Erangel.

All-time favorite EvoGround, Payload mode, was included in the revamp project of the developers. Payload came back more exciting as Payload 2.0, adding more spice to the gameplay experience. The developers added brand new features just like an armed helicopter. They introduced new weapons and armed vehicles to take advantage of the battlefield and win the game. In terms of firearms, they added AT4-A laser-guided missile and M202 four-barreled rocket launcher as new features of the revamped version. New items included are UAV controllers, man-portable radar, and bomb suit for a challenging gameplay environment. Vehicles like UAZ, Buggy, and Dacia were turned into armed cars.

To welcome Halloween season, PUBGM developers brought Infection mode back to life. It is not what most players are hoping but still, an Evoground mode suitable for the season.

The developers of the game also release new mode, the Metro Royale. As someone who tried the mode through its beta version before, it is something that players will enjoy aside from the Payload 2.0 and Classic mode. This new mode comes with an entrance wherein once a player clicks/taps it from the main lobby, the player will be directed into another entry. Players can experience various dynamics and new features as the new in-game elements.

In Metro Royale mode, there are two maps that the player can choose to after unlocking those by upgrading the skill level. A new firearm is introduced on this mode, Tikhar, a Spartan rifle, and has a 20 ammo max per round. Black Market was included in its features where players can purchase or upgrade items like helmet, vests, and weapons.

Livik, a Nordic-style map, is still beta. Some bugs are still present and currently fixed, yet so far, and became one of the most played maps aside from Erangel. It is just a small map and can only accommodate 52 players for only 15 minutes match duration, making for a faster and intense gameplay experience. This map is not only packed with new weapons but as well as the introduction of a non-exclusive vehicle, Monster Truck.

It gives off a North-Eastern European vibe and resembles Norway, Netherlands, and Denmark. This map is relatively small but it is beyond unique due to how the terrains shift from green land, flowery area to snowy mountains.

Other maps like Erangel resemble some real-life places, like Mylta Power, which is the most popular spot in the map ensembles Chernobyl nuclear in Russia.

Sanhok, on the other hand, another map in PUBG, gives off the Southeast Asian jungle vibe with an army life due to many camps located. Some locations like the famous drop location, Paradise Resort, was inspired in Khao Sok Paradise Suratthani, Thailand. Meanwhile, the Miramar map gives off the South/Central American dessert vibe, and the Vikendi map, European vibe with its famous Cosmodrome, was inspired by Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Hence, Vikendi is a snowy map recognized by its fast-paced gameplay and intense ambushes, as players can only have minimal places to take cover as this map is an open snowy area. However, Sanhok is known for its green environment and tall grasses as a part of the strategy to ambush enemies. Most players in Sanhok cannot be seen as they are busy crawling on the grass. Meanwhile, Miramar may be the most challenging map to conquer, but it is said that players love it because it is challenging. Yes, it is challenging that the avatar’s skin is the same as the terrain’s color. It’s hard to spot enemies but this open field map is an intensifying environment for the clash.

Overall, this game eats so much storage, and the phone’s ability to run the app affects the gameplay. For someone who has a low-end phone may experience screen delays, inaccurate shooting, and lags. Most people say, though, the gameplay doesn’t only depend on its frame rate but also on the player’s ability to play.

What ruins the environment are those cheaters who always get away from the anti-ban system and bugs destroy the game environment.

It is a phenomenal game if you’ll look at it in a positive way and no intention of playing it competitively. Through this game, you’ll learn many things not only about adjusting your sensitivity settings, controls, and learning how to clutch and rush as well as trust, cooperation (while listening to the in game leader), and gaining new friends who’ll significantly impact your life. However, not all players are friendly.
