Dear Editor

I am here to speak the truth that made me sick and wanted to shift to another course. I almost slapped my face to make sure that I am not dreaming. I thought everything would go easier when I heard many beautiful words during our orientation program, but I was wrong.

One day, my phone consecutively rang in surprise. I live in a rural area, but I do not find online classes as the hardest of the hardest that I have to face. What is harder is to understand the type of educators who utter, “If you don’t have a stable connection, just drop the subject” and/or “Buy this book for only Php***. ** plus shipping fee because the lessons here will be included in your exam.”

I could not believe what I have read in my first month of studying. We were all shocked in the class because of this power tripping. All of us were enrolled because we want to continue building our dreams. Yes, we are all suffering but is this the best solution for our educational problems? We just drop the subject because our location is not blessed with a good internet connection? Are not they supposed to help us? Are not they supposed to guide us?

Canvas has been adapted to make everything easier in this new normal. It is for the teachers to upload their lessons to reach out to the students, but why is it so hard to type, take a picture, or just scan what was written in the book? I wonder why teachers are free to do these to their students, but students cannot even speak for themselves.

This is the power that makes every student powerless. The control just makes every learner paralyzed. We demand a service that suits our expectations. We, students, are in need of on the go teachers. We pay because we want to grow; we don’t pay just to learn nothing.
