Is blood thicker than water?

Sometimes we feel detached from our loved ones, especially our parents, due to misunderstandings of what we feel or what bothers us. They always tell us “nag-iinarte ka lang.” Little did they know that they were the ones causing our exhaustion. We felt tired even though we did nothing. We were exhausted from worrying and hoping that everything would be fine.

How do you feel secure when a home doesn’t feel like a home anymore and everything gets darker and blurry?

Living in an impoverished household while dealing with an online class is never easy. Countless silent battles in the four corners of our room; shredding tears on your pillow while covering your mouth just to make sure no one could hear you crying.

So-called homes are not worth relaxing in anymore. They brought us deep wounds that no one can ever tell when they’re going to be healed. The ones we consider family are the ones who make us suffer from different traumas, anxiety, and even our coping mechanisms. We are scared that their opinions and actions might affect us.

They do not consider you a part of a family if you do not have a degree, a stable job, or worse, if you don’t give them what they want. They treat you as if you are their biggest mistake, and you make yourself a less worthy person.

The famous quote, “blood is thicker than water,” is incorrect; it should be, “The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.” The people who are within your circle of family are less important than the individuals with whom you are bonded at heart. Those strangers can help you when you are alone or feeling lonely.

We can end the stigma that not all family members can be proud of you no matter what achievements you’ve garnered or how far you’ve reached your dreams. If your family tree is not helping you grow as an individual, maybe you should start to get rid of what you are used to. Come out in your shell.

Nevertheless, a stranger can make you feel what home is truly about. A stranger can help you in your most difficult time. A home does not only revolve within the family that lives under a single roof. Moreover, a home is where you can find your inner peace and tranquility.

Go chase that dream with the people who believe that you bring out what’s best in you. There’s always a person who looks at your achievements. It’s not always about family, but you need to consider yourself also.
