NWU joins CHED’s week-long 1st National HEI celebration.

Northwestern University joins Commission on Higher Education in the celebration of its 27th Foundation Anniversary and 1st National HEI Week celebration on May 18-22, 2021, with the theme “Padyak! Sama-sama! Moving Forward, Claiming Victory for the Philippine Higher Education, Pamantasan: Pandayan Tungo sa Kaunlaran,” through different online activities via Zoom Videoconferencing App and Facebook Live.


The week-long celebration started through an opening program. Saguday Chorale led the doxology and singing of the Philippine National Anthem, ASEAN Hymn, and NWU Hymn. Prof. Agustina Dancel-Matias, Acting Dean of the Office of the Student Affairs formally welcomes the participants of the celebration. An inspirational message was delivered by the University President, Atty. Ferdinand S. Nicolas.


Mr. Christopher Cid and Mr. Jon Oscar Lois Rodas, both mentors of the Saguday Performing Arts Group present a special intermission number. It was followed by video greetings and messages from the CHED scholars, Saguday Artists, and The Review editors. Prof. Michelle P. Domingo, Co-Chairperson of the Organizing Committee for this week-long celebration ends the opening program through her words of gratitude.

Different competitions were conducted in line with the celebration. These competitions are Word Blitz, Spoken Word Poetry, Song Writing, Poster Slogan Making, and TikTok Challenge. Aside from that, the NWU Guidance Office conducted a Virtual Career Day for College Graduating Students, Grade 10 Junior High School students, and Grade 12 Senior High School Students on May 19 and 20, 2021.


On May 22, 2021, different activities were conducted. The Online Zumba Session and Martial Arts Training were led by the College of Teacher Education, Basic Education Department, Saguday Dance Troupe, and College of Criminal Justice Education. It was followed by Mental Health Webinar for Employees with Ms. Jessica Guillermo, CAS Faculty, and Dr. Ricardo S. Guanzon, MMSU College of Medicine Dean, as guest speakers. Simultaneously, a webinar on News Reporting with Prof. Ben G. Domingo Jr., Chairperson of CHED’s Technical Committee on Journalism was also conducted.


During the Poster Slogan Making Category, the winners are Russel Joy L. Pascua (CEAT), first place; Clark Justine A. Galiza (CEAT), second place; and Shane Viernes Aquino (CAHS), third place. For the TikTok Challenge, the winners are Katelyn Czarina Ugale (CTE), first place; Jenelyn Garo (CAS), second place; and Joshua Ibonia (COBE), third place. The Spoken Word Poetry competition winners are Novelyn Watson (CTE), first place; Jezreel Larry Caunca (CAS), second place; and John Eiell Domingo (CTE), third place. The winner of the Song Writing Competition is Rozelle Gregorio (CTE) while Joemelle Buenavista (CTE) is the runner-up. The winners for the Online Word Blitz are Pamela Tadeja (CAS), first place; Dr. Yolanda Sabado-Lao (CAS), second place; and Rheane Audny Ylarde (CAS), third place.


Prof. Agustina Dancel-Matias, the Chairperson of the Organizing Committee for this week-long celebration, formally close the program by expressing her gratitude to everyone who participated and exerted effort in making this event successful.
