SSC, CTE facilitate NWU’s World Teachers’ Day 2021 celebration

Northwestern University (NWU) through the Supreme Student Council (SSC) and College of Teacher Education (CTE), facilitated the celebration of World Teachers’ Day on October 8, 2021, with the theme “Teaching is the Profession that Teaches other Professions.”

On a global scale, this year’s World Teachers’ Day focuses on the theme “Teachers at the heart of education recovery,” which also commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recommendation concerning the status of teachers. It is indeed significant that we advocate towards a healthy, just, and efficient working environment for our teachers which includes amplifying their needs for higher wages and providing them with a stronger support system.

Dr. Chita A. Gonzales, Vice President for Academic Affairs delivered her welcome remarks while an inspirational message was delivered by Atty. Ferdinand S. Nicolas, University President.

To give some refreshment to the viewers, an intermission number was presented by Rozelle C. Gregorio, a fourth-year CTE student. After which, Dr. Elsie C. Pilar, the CTE Dean delivers her empowering message for the celebration.

A special video was presented as a tribute to the sacrifices of NWU’s mentors and educators, the pillars of hope and progress in the academic journey of the whole NWU community. Janine Lyka Tangonan, a third-year CTE student, also presented an intermission number.

There is no doubt that NWU’s creativity is commendable for the latter part of the event which is a guessing game from which the viewers need to guess who is that teacher, a fun and exciting vibe dominates every minute of the event. To add up the enjoyment of the viewers most especially the teachers, an intermission number was presented by the NWU After 5 Band.

The program ended with a closing address from Prof. Agustina A. Dancel-Matias, Acting Dean of the Office of Student Affairs.

The two student-moderators of the event, John Rafael Liberato and Khristine Mae Gumarad greatly contributed to the overall success of the program.

A simple commemoration to give back our appreciation to our mentors and educators does not need to be extravagant, but a collective effort to remind them that we see their selfless service, and we honor their commitment in pursuit of honing the future of the nation is more than enough.
