CEAT conducts research webinar, emphasizes Innovation

On March 25, 2022, the Northwestern University College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology (CEAT) hosted a public virtual seminar centered on research presentations toward innovations using the Zoom Videoconferencing App.

Ar. Analiza A. Arcangel delivered her opening remarks, presenting the research and stating the importance of research for innovation.

“These researches are the product of our presenters’ creative imagination, which ended [in] technological innovations,” Ar. Arcangel said.

The opening remarks was followed by the introduction of the presenters by Rexmith Pugyao, College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology Student Organization (CEATSO) President.

Engr. Noralyn S. Narciso, Computer Engineering Alumna; and Mr. Ian Dave R. Agmata, Mr. Vincent F. Alejandro, Mr. Jerico Antonio, Mr. Justin G. Baraoidan, Mr. Bhyron John V. Cimatu, Mr. Christian James T. Doropan, Mr. Joshua J. Frez, Mr. Christian Jake T. Inocelda, and Mr. Dave Fenny S. Simon, fourth-year students of Mechanical Engineering were the presenters.

Engr. Noralyn S. Narciso discussed her research titled, “Arduino-Based Solar Power Charger.” According to her study, the research aims to be a great help to travelers, who travel where no electricity is provided. Their mobile phones can be charged through the device innovated in the research.

“The Arduino-Based Solar Power Charger employs solar energy to supply electricity to [a] device or charge batteries,” she said.

The group of Mr. Ian Dave R. Agmata presented their research titled “Design, Fabrication, and Evaluation of a Low-Cost Small Scale Root Crop Pulverizer.” It is stated in their study that it focuses on designing and using appropriate materials to fabricate a root crop pulverizer. “The purpose of this study was to minimize the effort of local producers of cassava cake through providing a cassava pulverizer. The main objective was to grind root crops into smaller pieces to minimize time effort in processing,” they said.

Engr. Rolly C. Ramos, Dean of the CEAT, delivers his inspirational message after the presentation of the research and followed by the open forum.

“Being a researcher requires dedication, hard work, and more than a little inspiration,” Engr. Ramos said.

“Conducting research is not just important, it’s imperative,” Engr. Ramos added.

To close the event, Engr. Lloyd Delaraga, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, gave his closing remarks and extended his appreciation to the presenters.

“They should continue on thinking more innovative ideas and apply them to develop machines or gadgets to lessen specific tasks. I hope the students are encouraged to do more creative and innovative works now and will become their way of life,” Engr. Delaraga stated.
