Pandemic’s Vile Aftermath

Imagine if we can’t have the freedom that we want. We can’t enjoy the things we supposed to enjoy. Everything falls apart; everything was a nightmare.

In the long months of quarantine, we have encountered lots of challenges. We faced not just the pandemic; we also experienced successive storms that made us stronger. We have met 2020 full of determination and bravery.

At the peak of the Enhanced Community Quarantine announcement, we struggled mentally and financially; where to get money to suffice our needs anent to this is the struggle of online classes. Our parents grappled with bills and groceries, and it was a significant burden, especially for the middle-class parents, to fund the online class load. Also, with those in the mountainous areas who have weak signals to conduct classes. Few individuals led fundraising to help parents and students suffice their load allowance and lend a helping hand for those requirements they wouldn’t understand. It is a one big snappy to all of them.

In almost a year of fighting COVID-19, we learned our lessons. We opened our eyes to what the real problem is – the government. They blind us with their flowery words and promises, but Filipinos are known to be productive. After almost a year, we are still here even if the government failed to play their roles. They were unable to give us the account that we supposed to receive. Up until now, the malice of the government hasn’t been fixed yet. Thus, it gets worse than ever.

What if COVID-19 is just the epitome of next year’s suffering? What if the 2012 prediction is wrong and 2021 is the real year? Are we not threatened by the consequences of our actions? Much more to this is that the virus is mutating that even we have a robust immune system, we still get infected.

The United Kingdom banned travels worldwide to prevent the spread of the new virus, and they canceled celebrations during Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Meanwhile, there were reported cases of the new virus in our country, but still, there are no plans to ban flights going in and out of our country. Let us be more conscious of everything; yet, avoid going to parties or crowded places. Remember, everyone is a possible carrier of the virus. Let us strengthen our immunity more.

Now that we will face another dilemma and our health is still at risk, we need to stay home. There are realizations that I’ve encountered while we are in quarantine. First, health is most precious as a diamond; take good care, and have proper hygiene because health is wealth. Second, everything will be temporary, from jobs to friends and people that surround you. Everything will not last for a lifetime; be thankful who stayed with us through ups and downs and those who witness our downfalls. Third, pandemic prevails how toxic our justice system is, if you have the power, you can do anything. Also, some anomalies lie in the government’s different agencies and make us even more impoverished, and they became more affluent. Being ignorant doesn’t help us. We need to be vigilant, especially in the government. Fourth is our mental health. It is okay to feel that we are not okay. Healing takes time but always remember to grow and love yourselves.

Will it be a healing process next year? Or will it be another roller coaster to ride?
